It is only the middle of February. It can still be brutally cold. We are getting into the time of the year when we get heavy, wet snows. What's so spring about that?
It is a trick of nature. Females of many species are getting attractive to males. You know what comes from that sort of thing.

I saw a nature video of baby owls that had hatched at this time of the year. Their nest was way up in the sky where there is chilling wind. But each little owl had its own space suit of downy feathers for warmth. Don't be fooled: all sorts of processes and preparations and beginnings are happening right now.
