Changes in farming

I saw an article called "Farm meetings: Not like Dad attended"

It is here: http://www.wisfarmer.com/story/opinion/2017/12/14/farm-meetings-not-like-dad-attended/947002001/

Visiting the link will show you a silo unlike any you have seen before.

I gather from reading the article that farmers, in this part of the US, anyhow, are using silos less.  I gather they have always been dangerous.  There seem to be at least two classes of problems: stored material crashing down and poisonous gases.  The silage can get stuck but trying to get it loose can result in great amounts of the stored stuff avalanching down.  Not a problem unless a farmer is below it trying to get the jam loose.

I live in a farming area and every once in a while, we hear about a farmer overcome by silo gases and killed.

Like everything else, farming and silos are changing.  Farmers can accomplish the same thing with other sorts of storage, not so dangerous.  Silos can be of interest as scenic towers as depicted in the article linked above.  Whatever things were like when you were a kid, they may be a bit different now.
