Happy Spring!

Spring arrived at 10:59 last night.  We got a bit of a snow fall last night, too.  That has been typical of many springs. Storms and cold don't recognize they are out of fashion and refuse to vacate the premises.  I read that the spring equinox happened earlier than it has for 124 years. I don't know much about the fine details of heavenly movements but I was surprised that there was a noticeable change - noticeable to those in the know, not me.  I turned to my buddy Google and found

The March equinox would occur on the same day every year if the Earth took exactly 365 days to make a complete revolution around the Sun. ... This means that each March equinox occurs about 6 hours later than the previous year's March equinox. This is why the date of the equinox can change from year to year.

Notice that the text says "about" 6 hours later.

So, we get calendar drift.  We humans used math and calculation plus a fondness for 12 and other integers with many whole divisors, but we have to keep an eye on our wants and desires as well as what we say and do with others.  We don't want autumn colors on the trees at Easter. We don't want Christmas on a blazing summer day. So, every once in a while we get a surprise or we decide to make an adjustment to the calendar.

Still, we have reached spring, and the weather is getting warmer and better for walks, runs, biking and outdoor sports.  If you live in Wisconsin, you may want to sunbathe a little, especially near a nice warm wall that reflects a little heat.  Except for the daring, it is too early to dive into the lakes even if they have lost their ice. But things are happening and the animals and plants are stirring. Time to buy some blossoms or check in the back there for crocus.
