Verification from the other end

Some of the firms I deal with send me a code or do other things to satisfy themselves they are really dealing with the person I say or write that I am.  But I am beginning to need verification from them, not just from me.  How about I send a 21 digit number to an address I am pretty sure is really them and they let me know what that number is.  You know, just to be sure.
