Good way to help yourself

You may not have noticed but this blog did not have any new posts for a couple of days.  Just before the pause, I urged readers to try writing their own.  So far, I haven't gotten any word that anyone did.

Most people are not inclined to write at all.  There are many reasons to not bother.  But getting in the habit of writing about thoughts, readings, movies and other content a person has enjoyed helps to remind the writer of blessings, friends, experiences.  I know this may be difficult to believe but if you are alive, breathing, speaking, moving about, you are already a miracle.  My friend heard me say that and he asked how he or I could be a miracle when there are so many humans.  But you know some of the answers: he is the only him!  His mommy carried him for nine months after his daddy and mommy got him going.  She gave him things to build a body and cared for him after he was born.  He lasted all these years! So have you!

You can explain the puzzles that you have solved for yourself and the ones that still get your attention.  You can use your phone to photograph your lawn and garden and the cake you baked.

A friend explained that you can't spend 15 minutes in my company without hearing about some book.  She is right.  Take a look at Memoir as Medicine by Nancy Aronie, an experienced teacher of journal writing.  Take a look at Why Woo-woo Works by David R. Hamilton.  You can install free Kindle software from Amazon.com onto your phone, your tablet or your computer and download those books in the next 30 minutes! You will get inspired to look at the many thoughts you have had today already.  You will recall the funny thing that happened yesterday and the scary news item you saw on the news last night.

Many people think that writing is to communicate.  That's a common idea but writing is good for your brain, your memory, your mood, whether or not anyone reads your writing.  Don't worry.  In 600 years, people will use your writing to explore life in this century. Meanwhile, your greatgrandkids will be charmed by your words.
