Working together to lose weight

We aren't especially interested in eating less.  We have found that as older people, we already eat little and less than before.  But we are still gaining weight, having trouble getting into our pants and lessening the belly flab.

Lynn got enthused with limited hours eating.  All eating is to be done within an 8 hour period.  We don't seem to have much trouble getting up at 6 AM and not eating breakfast until 9:30.  We do have coffee at about 7.  We are in the habit of eating at 7:30 so two hours later seems a long time.  It is not that we are very hungry waiting.  It is just that the husband is used to breakfast earlier so the thought of breakfast keeps recurring.  What about breakfast?  How about eating?  Ready to eat?  Want breakfast?

When it is time to eat, I tend to grab every edible thing in sight.  I may well be able to pack in more calories than usual in just a few minutes.  The excellent book, "Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human" by Richard Wrangham makes clear that human cooking and food preparation allows us to cram in an especially large number of calories in a short time compared to the other great apes' methods.

I had heard about an 8 hour limit before and hadn't thought much about it.  As a teen getting into the Scouts Order of the Arrow, I had worked all day, one day only, and not eaten between the last meal of the previous day and dinner.  I had no trouble and no discomfort.  But for two people, eating early means the end of the food time comes early, too.  Then, one or the other of us may have trouble with the long time before 9:30 the next day.
