We see professionals frequently and the voices of children, their grasp of the roles, the extent to which they get distracted make a production that is tender and uplifting to watch and listen to. Some kids have better balance and body control during dances and some look a little shaky. You can see one dancer look at another to get the timing and the steps right and in sync.
This play included bits and references of well-known stories and fairy tales but suddenly the action may take a twist, just when you feel like you are in familiar territory. A prince gallops on stage, just gallops, no horse. He announces he is the prince "and the future king." A princess bows or swoons, expressing her delight but he cooly explains that the princess he seeks is not her. Later, the same fellow has two or three princesses after him while trying to explain that he knows the princess he is searching for and none of those present are the one. There is a slipper that fits but some that don't. It can be confusing but the three bears are in the story as well as Rapunzel.
There was plenty of dancing and singing while I tried to keep up with the story with its both merry and sad turns. It all turned out ok!
