Topcalypse

What with bad news available every minute from every direction, this might be as good a time as any to throw out a different idea.  I will use the word "topcalypse" to stand for the opposite of the final destruction of the world, or of evil, or of whatever.  Our minds, grown from inside the womb all the way to now, seek simple design and assist us in using simple and sometimes unexamined language.  Many of us now carry pictures in our minds that actually leave the word "world" in an ambiguous state.  Is this ball, this planet, the world?

Or, is this the world?

We can always use words to get around the problem and say "I bet today will be the day on which everything is destroyed."  As a book maker, I know that bet has been put out there many times and I don't want to run the same deal yet again.

So, I posit the opposite of the destruction of the world.  We already know that despite our basic concepts of a beginning and an end, a good idea for everyday use is picture of the world as a place of steady change.  So, having peered into my tea leaves, tossed the dice and consulted the entails of a dissected orange, I am now set to reveal that everything is perfect and that those temporary irritants of fear, pain, loss and envy are on their way out.  We can call their complete absence "topcalypse" and we can expect that very soon.
