We are in the "pre" period of the 2016 presidential election. Our governor is proposing drastic cuts to the state budget and services. Evidence shows that our planet is getting warmer which may lead to erratic weather and strong storms.
What surprises me is that the chickadees don't seem to show any interest in ANY of this. They are NOT good citizens of the US. They don't go to the polls on election day and they don't stay up with current events. I asked them and they don't know who Kim Jong Un is. They don't stay current with fashions, and they never get haircuts.
The International Society for Chickadee Aid (ISCA) has no money for scholarships or apprenticeships. The group seems mesmerized by the possibility of inaction. They seem indifferent to furthering the education and health care of chickadees. What can we do to move our chickadee population into the 21st century?
It seems to me we have two choices. We can put our nose to the wheel and our shoulder to the grindstone and improve the plight of the chickadees or we can continue on in our blind little worlds, carrying on with our luxury-laden lives, leaving the chickadees unclothed, uneducated, unchurched and unorganized. What would FDR say about our continuing to live in blithe indifference to the real state of American chickadees? What would Ronald Regan say?
John James Audubon appealed to us all to lift the general hourly wage of the chickadees, to be sure they have medical care, to work to raise their literacy level, the level of their emotional intelligence, their financial literacy and their math scores but we didn't rise to his impassioned call. Currently, we have NO evidence that our chickadees can compete on the level of the birds of Singapore or Taiwan. This is not a situation that our founding birders expected and it is certainly not one that we want to pass on to our grandchildren. Let's take action now!
