Door County, Wisconsin is sometimes compared to a thumb of land sticking up for the well-known city of Green Bay. We have stayed in various places in Door County and visited many others.
One of the most unusual aspects of our recent trip was an out-of-the-blue experience of people we hadn't met before surprising us by paying our dinner bill. We had been told by several different sources that the restaurant called "Chop" was very good: high quality, reasonable prices. For us, it's new. We had never heard of Chop but we looked it up and found an early dinner with attractive choices and an attractive price. We had to stand in the longest line I have ever been in for restaurant entry. It is fun and interesting to watch the hostess in action admitting couples and giving a ticket to the early dinner room on the top floor. The tables in this room were small and close set. During drinks and dinner, we talked to a couple at a neighboring table. We did state that that day, that date, was our 64th wedding anniversary.
When we were done, I offered my credit card to the waiter but he said we had no bill. What? Who paid for our dinners? Lynn immediately intuited it was our neighbors. Quite a surprise!
