Let's save that for later

I think it is a good plan to be ready to let all devices go at any time.  I use the word "device" to cover all electronics, like computers, smartphones and tablets such as iPads.  We, like the pioneers who traveled west in our country, have done without being connected to the internet and we could do it again.  It would be painful and unsettling not to get emails and texts but we could do it.  I often think of communication in writing when the paper or other writings had to be carried across the ocean by sailing ship.

How long did it take to cross the Atlantic in 1800?

In the early 19th century sailing ships took about six weeks to cross the Atlantic. With adverse winds or bad weather the journey could take as long as fourteen weeks.

You have probably heard of ransomware, just one of the hazards lurking around, trying to upset my day.

I want to be able to say Good-bye to important records at any time and start over.  We have more than 10,000 pictures of important moments in our lives and of our loved ones.  Lynn often uses the idea that if we don't look at things or use them, we could do without them.  I know that it is true but in the matter of digital goods, we can keep them in various ways.  Google Drive, Microsoft's OneDrive and Apple's iCloud are places where we can keep pictures of our precious babies.

Just today, she saved 11,000 pictures on a "thumb drive".  I looked up those convenient, inexpensive little drives in the online offerings of Staples and Amazon.  There are some amazing buys in small objects that can save data.

This is definitely an era of big data - lots of information, data, writing, pictures, recordings saved all over.
