I never know what to write about

Your relatives and friends could share more of your life and thought if you wrote or emailed them.  But as my niece used to say, "Nothing's happening."  So, there is nothing to write about.

I say,"Have some courage."  Are your shoes getting scuffed?  The very ones you have always liked.  That's a little sad, that your favorite pair needs care.  But we both know that the best care is not really going to restore them.  The shoes are wearing out.  You have checked and a new pair costs quite a bit more than those shoes used to cost.

Write about those shoes: where they have been, what made you buy them in the first place.  You had doubts they would work out, remember?  And for modest shoes, they do carry a hefty price tag.  Over $100?  Over $200?  Was that a moral thing to do, pay that much?  I mean with starving children and all.

Thinking about what is moral and what isn't, how about leather, you know, the skin of innocent animals?  It can be surprising how good leather shoes are.  Cloth, even advanced cloth made with advanced chemicals and having advanced properties, may not work in as many situations as leather.

OK, enough with the shoes.  Food?  Politics?  Tax season?  The end of January already and how time and our lives, the very breath of our bodies, goes by so quickly and I haven't even been to Kilimanjaro or Buenos Aires yet.  How about the shame and embarrassment that you never sent Bertha a Christmas card?  How about the truth of what you actually feel about that woman?

Believe it or not, your life and mine are filled with amazing phenomena every minute.  It just takes a few minutes to reflect and think about what has happened in the last day, what you can see from where you are, what you think about it all and what you remember thinking yesterday that you feel differently about now. We are all moving at 18.5 miles a second around the sun, not to mention the earth's rotation and the solar system's movement through the Milky Way galaxy.  No wonder you have trouble capturing all that is happening!
